Don’t let Gordon seduce you…
In his Saturday column Peter Oborne lists the reasons why Nick Clegg is likely to manoeuvre his party into a deal with Labour if there is a hung parliament. This one really struck me as the most damning:
“LibDems have been seduced by Brown’s clever promise of electoral reform. The Prime Minister has long been opposed to proportional representation (because he believes it leads to weak governments), but he has softened his stance in a cynical ploy to cosy up to the LibDems.”
So the Prime Minister really is whispering sweet nothings into Clegg’s ears.
Why would any Liberal Democrat supporter in Wallasey or Moreton allow themselves to be seduced by Gordon Brown?
In this constituency, the Liberal Democrats haven’t done anything resembling a campaign for donkey’s years and most of the Lib Dem effort in Merseyside appears to be in Liverpool Wavertree, judging by what their agent there says.
If a Liberal Democrat in Wallasey or Moreton wants five more years of Gordon Brown, it seems the surest way to get it is by voting Liberal Democrat.
